Brussels (AFP) – Anti-Islamist demonstrators in the Belgian capital will march to the European Union headquarters on Thursday, chanting “Danger, danger” and “Muslim bans are racist”.
“We are the anti-Muslim.
We are the racist,” said Philippe Deschamps, who led the march, calling the move “dangerous”.”
Europe is the land of freedom and democracy, but the Islamisation of Europe is an insult to the spirit of this country,” Deschamp said.”
We want to send a message that Brussels is not a safe place for Muslims.”
Anti-Muslim protests have been on the rise in the European capital since the November 2015 Paris attacks that killed 130 people.
Demonstrators are expected to gather in front of the EU building in the centre of the Belgian city, where thousands have gathered in recent weeks.EU leaders have been pressing for a tougher crackdown on the far-right and anti-immigrant groups in Europe, amid mounting calls for them to be banned.
In January, the bloc suspended the refugee programme for migrants, saying they had not complied with EU rules.
